Steering Wheel FAQ
What's the difference in Steering Wheels?
We offer a wide variety of steering wheels to fit most sim racers' preferences and driving styles.
Our wheels also come in three tiers (CSL, ClubSport, Podium), and a variety of shapes and styles (GT, F1, Rally, and Drifting).
What do these different shapes and styles mean?
GT Racing
GT (aka Gran Touring) Racing may be described as a premier form of motorsport. These cars normally use round, D-shaped, or open-top butterfly-shaped wheels.
Great examples of this include the CSL Steering Wheel GT3, the ClubSport Steering Wheel RS, and the Podium Steering Wheel R300.

F1
Formula 1 (and Formula racing as a whole) use single seater cars capable of extreme speeds. These cars are driven with compact, open-ended rectangular or butterfly shapes:
Examples of this include the ClubSport Steering Wheel F1 Esports V2 and the ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2.5 series.
Rally & Drifting
Rally and Difting is a unique type of racing. In Rally, racers compete in off road courses, with a spotter as a passenger to help navigate the course as they go. Drifting, meanwhile, is a driving style that will test your ability to navigate tight corners with speed by sliding the car to turn.
Rally and Drifting vehicles are usually equipped with round wheels. Great examples of these include the CSL Steering Wheel R300 V2, the ClubSport Steering Wheel Drift V2, and the Podium Steering Wheel Monte Carlo Rally.
What do the Tiers Mean?
Our steering wheels, much like our wheel bases, are classified in 3 different tiers: CSL, ClubSport, and Podium series.
CSL
The CSL series is a great starting point for those looking to transition from a controller or third-party base to serious hardware. It is ideal for users looking for solid performance and good customization options without breaking the bank. Most products within the Fanatec ecosystem support the CSL steering wheels, but not all legacy wheels will work on the current line-up of wheel bases. Make sure to read the product description carefully to ensure the connections and requirements match a specific model.
Our lineup of CSL Steering Wheels includes the CSL Elite Steering Wheel Porsche Vision GT, the CSL Steering Wheel WRC, and the CSL Steering Wheel GT3
ClubSport
The ClubSport series is a high-quality product line aimed at serious sim racing enthusiasts and professional drivers. These wheels offer several advantages over the CSL series, especially in terms of performance, materials, and customization options. This series is compatible with most Fanatec products across the range, providing a more comprehensive and premium experience for drivers willing to invest in their equipment.
Our lineup of ClubSport wheels includes the ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2.5, the ClubSport Steering Wheel BMW M3 GT2 V2, and the ClubSport Steering Wheel Porsche 911 GT3 R V2*.
*At this tier, many of our wheels turn into bundle sets with wheel rims, universal hubs, and additional accessories. You can learn more about that here.
Podium
The Podium series represents the absolute premium category in sim racing. It is designed for professional drivers, former racers, and highly dedicated enthusiasts who do not want to compromise on anything. Podium wheels feature high-quality materials used in the automotive industry, ensuring both durability and a professional driving experience.
Our lineup of Podium wheels includes the Podium Steering Wheel Bentley GT3 and Podium Steering Wheel BMW M4 GT3.
(Always make sure to double-check the steering wheel's "Compatibility" section in the product page to confirm the connections and requirements match.)
About the Compatibility Badges
The FANATEC® ecosystem is unique in both variety and flexibility, but it's important to be aware of what will work for each platform. You'll find the badges above across all steering wheels.
Always remember to check the individual product pages for more details.
This is the easy one--all Fanatec products with PC, and almost any current Fanatec hardware can be used for PC.
PlayStation compatibility is built into select wheel bases. Any steering wheel listed as PS-Ready and connected to a PlayStation-licensed wheel base will work.
Xbox compatibility is built into select steering wheels. By connecting an Xbox-licensed Steering Wheel to any Fanatec wheel base, the entire set of connected Fanatec hardware becomes Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S compatible
You can find a current list of Xbox-compatible wheels here. You can also read more about our platform compatibilty here.
What Quick Releases are Compatible?
As of February 16th, 2026, all Fanatec products purchased through Fanatec's website are QR2 by default. QR1 has been discontinued. Occasional QR1 stock can occasionally pop up on our website, but it's not guaranteed.
Some QR1 wheels and wheel bases can be converted to QR2. You can learn more about which wheels and wheel bases can convert to QR2 here.
