How is quick release system 2 (QR2) different from older QR1 version (present on f1 ps4 dd1 base for example)?
The QR2 system is a complete redesign aimed at replacing and improving upon the proven QR1 system in many aspects.
Developed around the same (electrical) connector, QR2 features a less circular shape and more of a squared-off design. The goal in developing the QR2 system was to enhance the operation and performance of the Fanatec Quick Release System and establish a new standard for years to come, even suitable for automotive applications.
The main focus during development was on achieving ergonomic and comfortable wheel changes, as well as ensuring a stable, reliable, backlash-free, and quiet connection.
We happy that after extensive development, the QR2 system is now finalized, and many wheels and wheel bases on the market are upgradeable. Please note, QR1 and QR2 systems are not compatible. Therefore, upgrading to QR2 for your wheel also necessitates upgrading the wheel base. This upgrade is possible for Podium DD1, Podium DD2, CSL DD, and GT DD Wheel Bases. The new ClubSport DD and ClubSport DD+ Wheel Bases come directly equipped with a QR2 Base-Side.
